Presenting the results of the survey at a press conference, Delevic said that popular support for Serbia's membership in the EU declined to 57%, noting that this is not surprising because a similar trend has been reported in the neighbouring countries which are even closer to the EU than Serbia.
The major “reservoir” of support to Serbia’s membership in the EU are still the 78% of citizens who believe that reforms should be implemented and that they are not only a condition for European integration, but for the overall progress of the country.
When asked what it means to be an EU citizen, 71% of respondents said that this means the right to work in the EU, 51% say it is the right to permanent residence, 43% the possibility of studying, while 31% think that this is the possibility of using health care service and social assistance in any EU country, the Director of the EU Integration Office specified.
She underlined that Serbia is still among the countries with high support to EU membership.
