The official government’s website brings excerpts from the interview.
The deadline for meeting EU’s conditions according to the Action plan:
We need to finish everything by the end of June. During the summer, the European Commission will prepare its opinion and in December member countries will take their stance. The quality of the opinion of the European Commission will depend on the quality of our reforms in the first half of this year. With a positive report by Chief Prosecutor of International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Serge Brammertz, we can have a basis not only for the candidate status but also for obtaining the date for starting negotiations on membership.
Hungary’s help during its EU presidency:
Their help would be to mobilise member states to send their technical missions, which should come after we submit our responses to the Questionnaire, considering the fact that it is important that the process is intensively followed. It is not realistic to expect to get a candidate status during the presidency of Hungary. However it is possible for Croatia to sign an agreement on accession, which is useful for us too. During the Hungarian presidency, the Danube Strategy and the Strategy for Roma Inclusion will be adopted and a discussion on EU budget from 2014 to 2020 will also start.
Expectations of countries in the region from the EU:
We are looking for two things for the Western Balkans. First, each year a linear increase financial support and secondly, we want to immediately introduce new economic game rules that are applied within the EU. These are two seemingly dry, technical issues, but together they are worth up to €2 billion of tax that we would not have to take from the citizens in this decade.
Budget for research and science:
Science budget remains low, but we increased it more than double, from RSD 9 billion to RSD 19 billion. We will invest €400 million in the scientific infrastructure, including at least €70 million for scientific equipment.
Construction of non-commercial apartments for scientists:
These apartments will be built in Belgrade, Nis, Kragujevac and Novi Sad. We will start building the Centre for Promotion of Science in Block 39 in New Belgrade as well as infrastructure of the Petnica Research Centre.
