Government to continue attracting investment

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic wished good health and a prosperous New Year to Serbian citizens.
Djelic told the Fonet news agency that Serbian citizens can expect Serbia to be granted EU candidate status at the end of 2011, stressing that the government will strive to set the date for negotiations on EU entry.
He noted, however, that the standard of living cannot increase dramatically, but added that 2011 will be the year in which Serbia will leave behind the regime of frozen salaries and pensions.
He said that the year ahead will be difficult, noting that in the time of crisis we have to be strong and have faith in ourselves.
The government will make efforts that Fiat in Kragujevac starts operating on a trial basis by the end of 2011 and at full capacity in 2012, he said, adding that the government will strive to continue to attract investors.
He said that Nis is an example of a city which attracted foreign investment, as five projects are underway there, including the investment of Italian company Daytech and the French Sagem.
Djelic announced the completion of the bridge at Ada Ciganlija and the Beska bridge next year, as well as the start of the construction of the Zemun–Borca Bridge, the completion of infrastructure for the Petnica research station near Valjevo and the beginning of the construction of a centre for the promotion of science in New Belgrade.
