At a press conference following the session, Skundric said that this historic decision will not only improve the supply, but also help to lower the prices of fuel.
As of 1 January, all market participants will be able to show their competitiveness and gain citizens’ trust with quality and favourable prices, he stressed.
There are 226 licensed companies dealing with trade in oil and oil derivatives in Serbia and 413 licensed companies dealing with retail fuel sale, which is a unique situation in Europe, taking into account the size of our market, he observed.
The Minister voiced his hope that today’s government decision will considerably speed up the modernisation of facilities of the Serbian oil industry NIS so that it can become a leading company in the region within a short period.
The government also adopted the energy balance for 2011, Skundric said, stressing that normal and regular supply of all energy sources and the necessary amounts of electricity is anticipated.
The Minister declared that the government adopted the EPS’s business plan, adding that the projected increase in the price of electricity for 2011 is between 13.7% and 13.8%, however, the decision on the final percentage will be made by the government.
Any increase will not significantly affect inflatory trends because it will help us to secure funds for investment in the electric energy sector, and in turn enable us to take on more workers, he observed.
