Army, police members receive recognition for noblest achievements

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic handed over a golden plaque for the collective achievement of the year to army and police members who first came to help the citizens of Kraljevo following the devastating earthquake of 3 November 2010.

At a presentation of awards of the Vecernje Novosti daily for the noblest achievement of the year, held in the Belgrade City Hall, Dacic presented the collective achievement award to Commander of the Second Brigade of the Serbian Army General Dusan Stojanovic.

The First Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Kraljevo was aided not only by members of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior, but also members of police departments in cities across Serbia as well as military personnel.

All police members gave away their one day's pay for the assistance to the citizens of Kraljevo, which provided assistance amounting to more than RSD 50 million.

Electrical engineer Milan Djordjevic received the golden plaque for individual accomplishment for saving two boys from the river Danube, near Kladovo.

Special awards for assisting in the rescue were given to police officers Sladjana Vukotic and Ljubisa Brlozanovic.

Sisters Milena, Jelena and Milica Ristic are winners of the golden plaque for children's achievement, as they take care of their seriously ill father in their family home in the mountains near Vranje.

Special certificates were granted to another 13 benefactors, including Dobrila Minic from Krusevac, who dragged the boys out of a burning car and doctor Slavica Cankovic who helped Serbian population in remote enclaves in Kosovo-Metohija.

The winners also include 14-year-old Nenad Vasovic from Arilje who found a purse with €700 and returned it to the owner, firefighters from Prnjavor that during floods rescued 15 people and the Randjelovic family from Nis that accommodated a baby with Down syndrome.
