Dacic puts into operation e-gate at Nikola Tesla Airport

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic has put into operation an e-gate at Airport Nikola Tesla in Belgrade, which will allow faster border crossing without the direct control by the border police.

Dacic pointed out that only two airports in Europe have this kind of device – Paris Airport Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt Airport, but they are not, like the one in Belgrade, completely connected to the system of border police.
The e-gate was donated by German company Milbauer that signed an agreement on technical cooperation with the Serbian Interior Ministry, Dacic said.
He pointed out that 1.5 million citizens of Serbia who have biometric passports issued after 31 December 2009 will be able to cross e-gate.
He stressed that Serbia is showing its wish for the EU not only verbally but also by introducing standards that not many European countries have.
Serbia has demonstrated to adhere to European standards, said Dacic.
Chief of Border Police Nenad Banovic said that the system automatically checks whether the citizen is on any list of local and Interpol arrest warrants and whether the data in the passport are original.
German Ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Maas said he is pleased to see the Serbian Border Police modernise and congratulated Serbia on the achieved progress.
