Opening a public discussion on this strategy held at the Palace of Serbia, Dacic said that the vision of the Ministry of the Interior is to become a public service of citizens for protection of personal and property safety.
The police are constantly adapting to the needs of citizens and real possibilities of the society, and in order to achieve this the police have to be open for cooperation and partnership with the international community and civil society, Dacic noted.
He added that the police must also raise their capacity and preserve the reputation they enjoy as institution, which requires internal reorganisation aimed at creating an efficient service.
I expect that capacities at all levels of management in the Interior Ministry will be strengthened, because this change can be managed only by capable leaders, trained and equipped with the entire set of professional knowledge and skills, the First Deputy Prime Minister underlined.
Dacic said that when making the draft of this document, the Ministry of the Interior used the experiences of different countries and pointed out that the goal is to find the best model that will enable an efficient, modern, well-equipped and professional police.
In order to prepare the final text of the strategy, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, experts from other ministries, educational institutions, international organisations and other relevant institutions will take part in the public discussion.
