Djelic opens “Applied Nostalgia” photographic exhibition in Brussels

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic opened the “Applied Nostalgia” photographic exhibition in Brussels last night, with photographs of Brussels by Goranka Matic and of Belgrade by Jim Samka.

Opening the exhibition at the seat of the Flemish government, Djelic said that the exhibition illustrates the “surreal” spirit of Brussels, which used to be the centre of surrealism in arts and literature, just like Belgrade was at one point.
The Serbian government is committed to cooperation with the most successful European regions, such as Baden-Württemberg, Lombardy and Flanders, as part of its EU integration process, he noted.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s Cabinet launched this project three years ago, wishing to present a series of joint photographs by a Serbian photographer and his colleague from an EU country.
Matic and Samka spent seven days in Brussels and Belgrade respectively, seeking to capture the atmosphere, people and architecture that remind them of their hometowns.
So far, five exhibitions have been held, with photographs of Lisbon, Paris, Stockholm, Prague and Madrid.
