Serbia’s strategic goal to continue with EU integration

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic announced today that his Ministry and the government will prepare answers to questions from the questionnaire by end-January, stressing that Serbia’s strategic goal is to continue with EU integration.

Following a meeting with European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin, Dacic said that he informed Kacin about the ongoing activities in Serbia aimed at harmonising Serbia’s regulations with those of the EU.
He stressed that Serbia has invested maximum efforts to solve the issues that have cast a shadow on visa liberalisation, and in that sense, around 2,000 false asylum seekers were returned from Sweden.
We want cooperation with the Hague tribunal and the political climate in the region to stop being an obstacle to EU integration, Dacic said, adding that this process will not be over when the questionnaire is filled in.
Kacin stated that the European Parliament will adopt a resolution on Serbia in January, which will be favourable to Serbia, and it will also ratify the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). Kacin called upon EU members that have not ratified the SAA with Serbia to do that as soon as possible.
A successful Serbia on a path to the EU is critical to the speedier progress of the entire region towards Europe, Kacin noted, recalling that on 19 December the first year of visa liberalisation for Serbian citizens was marked.
He commended the Ministry of the Interior on the quality way in which it took control over the false asylum seekers’ issue.
