Serbia, Czech Republic sign agreement on police cooperation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Radek John signed an Agreement on police cooperation between Serbia and the Czech Republic in the fight against crime.

Dacic told Beta news agency that the Serbian Interior Ministry has had a very good cooperation with the Czech police and pointed out that the work on the agreement on police cooperation between the two countries lasted several months.

He recalled a number of specific joint actions so far, especially the seizure of drugs and prevention of robberies and arrests on the basis of mutual quest, and also the well-established cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The agreement includes the exchange of operational information, education and training of personnel and exchange of experience, said Dacic.

The Czech Republic and Great Britain are our partner in interior control of the police, which we see as very important for further development strategy of the Serbian Interior Ministry, said Dacic.

He noted that one of the foreign-policy priorities of the Czech Republic, just like of the neighbouring Slovakia, is the EU integration of Serbia and other Western Balkan countries, adding that both countries are fully prepared to help Serbia on its EU path and facilitate the entry process.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the Czech Republic was very active in the process of visa liberalisation for Serbian citizens, and that a good share of these activities was realised during the Czech Republic’s EU presidency.

Now that we have come a step further, the Czech Republic is willing to further endorse us on our EU path and help us with its experience, so that Serbia can benefit from it, he added.

Dacic announced that Serbia’s EU integration will be the main topic of his meeting with Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg.

At this meeting, Dacic and Schwarzenberg are to establish the specific areas in which the Czech Republic is experienced and which can be beneficial to Serbia after it answers the questionnaire, that is, when it begins harmonising its legislation with that of the EU and adjusting to the practice that meets EU standards.
