At a press conference following a meeting with Bildt, Jeremic stressed that Serbia’s goal is to acquire EU candidate status next year.
In 2011 Serbia will take over the presidency of three crucial regional initiatives and will direct its regional policy towards normalising and stabilising the affairs in the Balkans and stepping up the integration process, Jeremic observed.
He underlined that there is a high level of understanding between Serbia and Sweden when it comes to EU integration, voicing his gratitude to Stockholm’s strong support to Serbia and other Western Balkan countries on their EU path.
Bildt said that, despite certain unresolved issues, Serbia has made huge progress in terms of EU integration and deserves appreciation.
He announced that the EU will hold a meeting on enlargement issues next week.
As for the upcoming election in Kosovo-Metohija and Belgrade’s dialogue with Pristina, he voiced his hope that there will be progress in this respect, adding that since the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution, the EU would like to see the province move on and prosper.
