Uruguay supports Serbia’s stance on Kosovo-Metohija

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic expressed gratitude today to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on its principled support to Serbia’s stance regarding Kosovo-Metohija.

Jeremic said at a press conference held after the meeting with Foreign Minister of Uruguay Luis Almagro that political relations between the two countries are excellent and that there are no open issues between them.
He pointed out that the meeting also dealt with the economic and cultural cooperation between Serbia and Uruguay, and announced that a number of intergovernmental agreements in the fields of science, culture and investment protection will be signed soon.
The Minister underlined that Serbia together with Uruguay will continue the fight against organised crime, adding that the direct cooperation between the governments of the two countries has led to progress in fighting drug traffickers.
He reiterated that EU membership remains to be Serbia’s strategic priority.
Almagro said that his country intends to maintain close relations with Serbia and that in the case of Kosovo-Metohija it has shown understanding for Serbia's position.
He pointed out that Serbia has continued with the tradition of the former Yugoslavia with which Uruguay had good relations and expressed satisfaction over Serbia’s European integration.
