Sector for Emergency Situations continues helping citizens in flooded areas

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic visited the flood-stricken areas in the municipality of Loznica and said that the urgent task is to clear up the damage and monitor the further development of the situation in the region in terms of rainfall and floods.

Visiting the villages of Lipnicki Sor and Vidic, Dacic commended the Sector for Emergency Situations, tasked with putting up ramparts against floods and helping residents day and night. He announced that members of this Sector will remain in the area to help the population salvage their possessions from flooded houses, assist the sick and helpless and help citizens restore their normal lives.

Dacic remarked that during the day he talked with his counterparts from Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina, adding that Montenegro is faced with the problem of rising water stage in Lake Skadar, which is affecting Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that everyone must still be on alert, noting that it is most important that no lives have been lost.

In order to efficiently help the flood-stricken areas, the government must set aside funds from the budget for this purpose, he observed.

Assistant Minister of the Interior and Head of the Sector for Emergency Situations Predrag Maric said that the situation with floods in Serbia is becoming stable.

We expect the flood-wave front, which is currently moving towards Sabac, to pass by this town tonight without inflicting any damage to people or facilities, except in the weekend area of Prov, where ramparts are being built, he stated.

Maric explained that the flood-wave front will then continue towards Belgrade, but noted that it will most likely cause little or no damage. He added that as for other parts of Serbia, which have been threatened by floods, the water has already started to recede.
