Scientific youth prerequisite for Serbia’s progress

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said today at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade that languages play an important role in society, adding that there are 23 projects that have been entered in the Ministry’s competition in which 33 researchers from this faculty will be involved.

Opening an international gathering marking the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Philology, themed “Philological Research Today – Language, Literature, Culture – FID 2010”, Djelic pointed out that the effectiveness of this institution is of great importance for the future of our country.
This educational institution needs digitalisation so as to show the cultural achievements of Serbia, he stated noting that scientific youth, but also jobs after graduation, are a necessity.
Speaking about the importance of languages in any society, he recalled the example of Germany, which recognised the need for German to be the third language of European diplomacy.
Rector of the University of Belgrade Branko Kovacevic asserted that Serbia must have well-trained and educated people in order to be a modern country, noting that 31 languages, their cultures, literature and history are being studied at the Faculty of Philology.
The Faculty of Philology in Belgrade has organised this two-day international conference with the aim of confirming and further deepening scientific and friendly relations among universities, as well as strengthening human resources in the field of philology and the humanities.
A total of 297 participants, with 231 papers, from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Macedonia, Russia, Slovakia, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbian university centres, are taking part in the conference.
