Speaking at a press conference held for the occasion of the first session of training for employees of courts and prosecutors' offices as part of the "Justice and War Crimes" project, Malovic confirmed that the search for Mladic and Hadzic is intensive and that it is certain that they will be prosecuted for the crimes they have committed.
It is not in Serbia’s political or any interest that they remain at large, the Minister pointed out, recalling that Serbia is committed to finding out the whole truth and condemning all war criminals.
The truth about war crimes must be legally established and clearly spelt out, she emphasised and noted that the Serbian judiciary has shown in recent years that it has sufficient professional staff to deal with such difficult cases.
Malovic expressed her hope that the ICTY will show confidence in Serbia and transfer a number of cases to it because our country is ready to undertake trials for these cases.
The Minister explained that as part of this project, support staff for work on war crimes will be trained, who will join the courts in Serbia and thus further strengthen their capacity.
Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert stated that the project "Justice and War Crimes" is aimed at providing advanced training to those who deal with war crimes cases.
This is why it is an important element in the cooperation with the ICTY, which is a precondition for Serbia to obtain EU candidacy status.
This project worth €4 million is financed by the EU, and implemented by the OSCE through its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
The partners in the project are the ICTY, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and OSCE missions to the former Yugoslav republics.
