UNESCO ready to assist in rehabilitation of cultural facilities in earthquake-hit Kraljevo

Belgrade, 11 November 2010

The Ministry of Culture announced today that UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova expressed readiness of this organisation, within its jurisdictions, to assist in repairing the damage caused to buildings of culture after the earthquake that hit Kraljevo.

The statement says that the mode of assistance will be determined next week at a meeting of Bokova and Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic.

Bradic proposed UNESCO to support the restoration of damaged cultural facilities in the area of Kraljevo.

The Minister of Culture visited the endangered monuments of culture in the area after the earthquake.

During his visit to the monastery of Zica he announced that, after expert teams establish the severity of damage caused by the earthquake the Ministry will ensure additional funds, the Ministry added.
