Serbia, Sweden to reach joint solution for false asylum-seekers

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Swedish Minister for Migrations and Asylum Policy Tobias Billstrom agreed to find a joint solution to solve the issue of false asylum-seekers in Sweden.

Dacic spoke on the telephone with Billstrom to discuss this issue, since there are around 5,600 asylum-seekers in Sweden.
Billstrom underlined that Sweden considers Serbia to be a democratic country, therefore requests for asylum are unfounded. Citizens who have applied for asylum will be repatriated to Serbia very quickly, he added.
Dacic voiced Serbia’s readiness to cooperate with Sweden, in line with the Readmission Agreement, stressing that control on border crossings with Hungary will be more stringent.
He also noted that the government will look into the matter and prosecute tourist agencies and individuals who transfer false asylum-seekers to Sweden.
Billstrom reinforced that Sweden endorses visa liberalisation and Serbia’s EU path, adding that the issue of false asylum-seekers will not affect Sweden’s stance towards these issues.
