Djelic, who is participating in the work of this meeting that is being held in Bucharest, said that the Declaration was proposed by the Romanian government and added that it will be published on 8 December in Brussels, when it will be adopted by the European Commission.
He announced that in the middle of next year the EU will adopt the Danube Strategy, adding that Serbia with 588 km of the Danube’s course has strong arguments for other countries to accept its initiatives.
He outlined that the summit in Bucharest gathered prime ministers or senior government officials from 14 Danubian countries, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, as well as a delegation from Poland.
Djelic highlighted after today's talks with Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc that Serbia and Romania have common interests in connection with the development of the Danube, because the river makes a large part of the border between the two countries.
He recalled the traditional friendship between Belgrade and Bucharest, and added that it was agreed that Serbia and Romania together develop the tourism potential of the Danube from Djerdap to Smederevo.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that an agreement was reached to build a motorway from Timisoara to Belgrade, which would later continue to Montenegro.
Serbia is a reliable friend of Romania, has always been and will remain so, maintained the Romanian Prime Minister.
He added that Belgrade can count on the support of Bucharest on the road to European integration.
He reminded those present that Romania is one of EU member states that has not recognised the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo-Metohija and stressed that Bucharest will not change its stance.
Djelic today in Bucharest also met with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and other senior officials who attended the summit.
