Increased interest of Japanese investors in Serbia

Belgrade/Düsseldorf, 8 November 2010

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today in Düsseldorf that Japanese investors are very interested in investing in Serbia.

Speaking at a conference on investment possibilities in Serbia, organised at the invitation of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dinkic presented the advantages of investing in Serbia to Japanese companies that do business in Europe and are headquartered in Düsseldorf.

He pointed out that the interest of Japanese companies in investment opportunities in Serbia rose after Panasonic announced that it will launch the production of LED diodes in Svilajnac next year, and after the South Korean Yura company located its production in Serbia.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that companies operating in Serbia have the option of duty-free exports to the markets of many countries in Europe and Asia that have more than one billion inhabitants.

Dinkic presented the investment climate in Serbia to Japanese investors and underlined that Serbia is especially interested in companies from the automotive and electrical industries, as well as information technology.

This is the first time that we have such a great interest of Japanese companies in the Serbian market. The incentives which Serbia will give to Japanese companies that are interested in investing in Serbia, employing its people and exporting from Serbia were presented at today’s meeting.

The presentation was seen by Japanese giants who are welcome to Serbia, Dinkic stated and added that at the beginning of next year Japanese industrialists will visit Serbia.

The conference in Düsseldorf was attended by representatives of more than 30 major Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi, Mitsui & Co, Hitachi, Toshiba, Fuji and others.

Japanese companies and representatives offices such as JTI, ITOCHU, Canon, Alltech-Fermin, have been doing business successfully in Serbia for a number of years.

Today’s presentation of Serbia as an investment destination was organised by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Düsseldorf, the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency, the Embassy of Japan in Serbia and the Japanese External Trade Organisation.
