Dragin told a news conference that the Ministry has initiated the conference in London to promote the agricultural sector in Serbia and provide opportunities for foreign investors to explore the potential of Serbian agriculture.
The Minister said that the EBRD recognised the importance of the idea and supported the event and also expressed the belief that the conference will yield good results.
A total of 160 participants applied for the London conference, which shows that there is great interest in the development of agribusiness not only in Serbia but in the region, highlighted Dragin.
He specified that Serbia in 2010 recorded the most rapid growth in agricultural production and expressed the hope that this year Serbia will export agricultural products worth $3 billion, exceeding last year's record exports of $2 billion.
The Minister expressed the belief that our agricultural production will focus more on exports and maintained that investment in the food processing industry will facilitate this.
Serbia has been listed among the top five countries for investment in agriculture, which is a great recommendation for foreign investors and it is important not only for agriculture but also for the overall economy of Serbia, Dragin underlined.
Gacek recalled that the EBRD has so far invested €2.4 billion in Serbia, of which €255 million has been in the agricultural sector.
She stressed that the agribusiness sector has the greatest potential for growth in Serbia and recalled that the EBRD has been working with the relevant ministry on a new project for public storage, which will allow farmers to finance their primary production.
