First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said in Uzdin that more members of national minorities should join police forces so as to maintain security and public order and peace in ethnically mixed communities.
Dacic highlighted after meeting with Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Sandor Egeresi that over the last few years the number of inter-ethnic incidents has been reduced.
The First Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that during the last year and a half authorities have been working on tolerance programmes that have included visiting multiethnic communities.
Dacic and Egeresi called on members of national minorities to take part in police training programmes because this will open the door for them to the Ministry of the Interior.
Dacic confirmed that all countries in the region offered help today for resolving the extraordinary situation caused by
this morning’s earthquake in Kraljevo.
He underlined that he received calls and offers for assistance from the interior ministers of Montenegro and Romania. The help is not needed though since there are no ruins that require additional machinery and manpower, he added.
Rescue teams with more than 40 workers fully completed their tasks.
