Serbian government committed to developing domestic economy

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that the Serbian government will help the tyre making factory Tigar and fashion company Prvi maj in Pirot to enter new markets and revitalise production.

During the visit to these factories, Dacic underlined that the rescue-fire units of the Ministry of the Interior use some of the protection equipment produced by Tigar, while in the case of Prvi maj, it will be analysed jointly what this company can make for the needs of the police.

He stressed that it is in Serbia's interest that these two companies are successful, taking into account that they employ more than 4,500 workers and that their production programme represent a kind of a national brand that needs to be saved.

The First Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that Tigar corporation needs new markets, whereas Prvi maj, after unsuccessful privatisation, needs revitalisation.

Dacic also reiterated Serbian government’s commitment to developing domestic economy and enabling Serbian companies to successfully compete at government tenders and public procurements.

Pirot has strategic importance for Serbia because it is located on one branch of Corridor 10, the completion of which will create more opportunities for economic development of the entire region, Dacic said.

He also added that being a border region, Pirot is of immense importance for the police in terms of combating crime and corruption and the preservation of public law and order.

Dacic officially opened a 9.5 kilometre road section from Pirot to Stara Planina Mt in which around RSD 60 million was invested.

Opening a Koprivsticki Krst–Belski Most section, Dacic underlined the importance of balanced development of the road network in the whole of Serbia for the creation of favourable conditions for economic progress.

The government will endorse the development of the road network in regions such as this one, Dacic noted, stressing that the road section opened today is of huge importance to the people living in its vicinity.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the local self-government, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the public road company Putevi Srbije for providing the funds for this section.
