Several persons arrested in Serbia, Montenegro on basis of extradition agreement

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that several persons were arrested in Serbia and Montenegro during the night and early this morning on the basis of the Agreement signed between the two countries on extradition of their own citizens.

After promotion of books by the Criminal Police Academy at the Belgrade Fair, Dacic specified that seven persons were arrested in Serbia and five in Montenegro.

He explained that out of seven persons arrested in Serbia, five of them are accused of a war crime against civilians and arrest warrants against them were issued by Interpol office in Podgorica. Dacic specified that those arrested in Serbia are Zlatko Pajkovic on charges of attempted murder and Nenad Bjelajac on charges of forging and criminal association, while those arrested on war crime charge are Radoje Radunovic, Milisav Markovic, Predrag Strugar, Milorad Ivanovic and Bosko Bojovic.

The Minister said that the arrests will be continued in Serbia and Montenegro and that last night’s and this morning’s arrests are the first result of the agreement signed between the two countries.

He voiced hope that this agreement will help remove many legal and constitutional obstacles for efficient implementation of law by punishing those who committed crimes.

During today’s visit to the stand of the Criminal Police Academy at the Belgrade book fair, Dacic said that in the continuation of reforms the Ministry of the Interior will insist even more on the education of the police, which must be a service to citizens. Dacic pointed out that police members do a very difficult and responsible job and that is why more attention must be paid to their education, as well as to their equipment. The Ministry’s aim is to have modern, educated and well equipped police, whose members must be much better paid than to date, the Minister underlined and expressed satisfaction with the big number of candidates interested in enrolling at the Criminal Police Academy.
