During a break at an “Introduction of Cleaner Production and Increasing Energy and Raw Material Efficiency” gathering, Djelic addressed the press recalling that the Dutch Parliament recommended that the Netherlands withholds Serbia’s application for EU candidacy and does not send it to the European Commission before the end of the year, when Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is to submit a new report.
However, the Netherlands has left an open door for an agreement to be reached on 25 October on this matter, provided other EU members concur, Djelic noted.
He explained that if other countries see this as a mere technical step, than the Netherlands will ask the EU Council of Ministers to adopt a declaration binding Serbia to full cooperation with The Hague tribunal in all of its future steps towards the EU.
We will continue cooperation with the tribunal as we have done so far and keep lobbying that our country’s candidacy be forwarded to the European Commission on 25 October, Djelic concluded.
