Serbia reliable partner in combating transnational crime

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated today in Sochi, at an international conference of high security officials, that Serbia is a trustworthy partner in the fight against organised transnational crime.
Addressing the participants in the two-day meeting, organised by the Russian Security Council, Dacic underlined that, judging by the volume of cooperation, results and initiatives it launched in this sector, Serbia has truly become a regional leader.
He specified that 27 organised groups have been identified and processed in Serbia, with 213 members and 452 associates, and that in 2009 over 40 persons for whom international warrants were issued, were arrested on Serbian territory.
The fact that Serbia is the only country in its region to have been invited to this conference is a huge recognition of the results it has achieved combating crime, he observed.
Representatives from 43 countries are attending the conference, including the United States National Security Advisor General, the Chinese Minister of Public Security, the French Secretary General for National Security and Defence, the South African Minister of State Security and the Uruguayan Minister of the Interior.
High representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Israel, India, Indonesia, Canada, Italy, Turkey, Algeria and the Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime are also participating.
The conference will look at joint activities concerning the fight against transnational crime and its most serious forms – terrorism, narcotics smuggling, illegal migration and illegal trafficking in weapons and radioactive substances. It will also discuss activities in case of natural and technogenic disasters, reads the Ministry’s statement.
