The Ministry says in a statement that Dacic met with the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior’s unions, the Police Union of Serbia headed by Veljko Mijailovic and the Independent Police Union led by Velimir Barbulov.
They launched talks about the improvement of the financial position of police officers in order to reach a solution which will take into account the specific nature of this occupation and give police officers equal rights as enjoyed by other employees in state organs, such as overtime, night and holiday pay and similar matters.
Since there are differing opinions between the relevant ministries as to whether this issue should be resolved by a special collective agreement for police officers or by amending the current collective agreement for state organs, it has been agreed to continue the talks for the time being until a solution is found to meet the justified demands of police officers, the statement adds.
