Serbia, Macedonia sign readmission agreement

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic signed an Agreement on readmission between Serbia and Macedonia and a Protocol on the implementation of this Agreement with Macedonian Minister of the Interior Gordana Jankuloska today.
After signing the Agreement at the Palace of Serbia, Dacic said that this is a very important document which will enable the mutual extradition of persons who illegally reside in Serbia and Macedonia respectively and that it will mitigate the consequences of illegal migration.
He noted that the two countries had already signed a similar agreement with the EU, but it was necessary that they sign it with each other. Dacic commended the cooperation between the two interior ministries and announced that this cooperation will be continued in order to enable a more efficient fight against organised crime and terrorism.
The Minister recalled that Serbia and Macedonia had already signed an Agreement on border traffic which enables people living just next to the border to cross it with a pass only.
The two ministries proposed to the governments of Serbia and Macedonia to examine the possibility of allowing citizens to pass the border with IDs only.
Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska highlighted that the Agreement on readmission gives a systemic framework for the legal state to respond to all cases of illegal residence in the territories of these two countries and underlined that it is a document that enables a more efficient fight against organised crime.
