Serbia as initiator of regional cooperation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic announced that at a ministerial conference on combating organised crime, which opens today in Belgrade, Serbia will sign an agreement about assistance in extraordinary situations with Montenegro, and a readmission agreement with Macedonia.

Appearing on Radio Television Serbia’s morning news, Dacic pointed out that Serbia keeps initiating such gatherings in order to have more agreements on cooperation signed between countries in the region, explaining that the goal is to establish firmer ties between the governments than those between criminals.

The conference, titled “Strengthening Regional and Transnational Cooperation as a Precondition of Successful Fight against Organised Crime in South-eastern Europe”, is organised by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice, he noted.

Over the last two years Serbia has been an initiator of regional cooperation, a fact that will be useful to us in the process of EU accession, Dacic stressed.

In talks between Belgrade and Pristina a compromise must be sought which would imply a just solution for both sides, Dacic maintained, adding that it is necessary to discuss issues which are most relevant to ordinary people in Kosovo-Metohija, such as the issues of documents, vehicle registration plates, social care and salaries.
