€1.5m to be set aside for reconstruction of greenhouse at Botanical Gardens

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said today that €1.5 million will be set aside from the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) for reconstruction of the big greenhouse at the Jevremovac Botanical Gardens.

Speaking at the event observing the Day of the Belgrade Faculty of Biology held at the Botanical Gardens, at which the best students were also presented with diplomas, Djelic confirmed that the tender for this project will be announced in April next year. He underlined that the big greenhouse at Jevremovac represents a teaching and scientific base for students and professors at the Faculty of Biology and other faculties from cognate fields of study and added that this reconstruction project should be completed within two years.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that 130 research projects from the Faculty of Biology have been submitted for the new cycle of financing scientific projects.

Dean of the Faculty of Biology Jelena Knezevic-Vukcevic specified that the Faculty has 1,500 students, of whom 300 are post-graduate, adding that this year the Faculty has invested RSD 6 million in procuring equipment and in infrastructure works to improve conditions for PhD students.

Vice-Rector for Finances and Organisation at Belgrade University Nevenka Zarkic-Joksimovic highlighted that biology students have achieved outstanding results and many of them have continued their education at the most prestigious universities abroad.
