Memorandum on police cooperation between Serbia, Uruguay signed

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Roberto Kondea signed a Memorandum of police cooperation tonight to fight against organised crime and prevention of drug trafficking in particular.
Dacic and Kondea signed the document at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport and stressed that this document will enable even better police cooperation between the two countries.
Dacic said that Serbia has a great interest in developing police cooperation with the countries of Latin America, because a great number of criminal group members from the former Yugoslavia are located there.
He recalled that in the action “Balkan Warrior” the police seized more than two tonnes of cocaine in a joint action between the security services of Serbia, the United States and Uruguay.
He pointed to a need for Serbia to cooperate not only through Interpol, but directly through bilateral agreements.
The Serbian Interior Minister pointed out that he had signed similar memoranda in June this year with police officials of Brazil and Argentina.
Kondea stressed that the memorandum signed with Serbia will contribute to the joint fight against not only drug trafficking but also against other serious crimes.
He underlined that bilateral police cooperation will be beneficial to both countries, expressing a wish for closer ties between Serbia and Uruguay in economic matters, culture and sport.
Kondea, who is heading the delegation of Uruguay in Serbia, announced a series of meetings with representatives of several ministries tomorrow.
