Serbia’s candidacy to be examined by EU Council of Ministers on 26 October

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic announced today that the EU Council of Ministers will examine forwarding Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership to the European Commission at its session in Luxembourg on 26 October.

Djelic said on RTV B92 that Serbia’s candidacy will be forwarded by the end of the year at the latest, and noted that Serbia is making progress in the process of European integration.
The start of negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina is also expected, he added and reiterated that Serbia will never recognise the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
Serbia’s strategic goal is full EU membership. It is not feasible that the entire Western Balkans enter the EU without the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and its status being resolved, the underlined.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the talks of Belgrade and Pristina in no way entail indirect recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
