Speaking at Serbia’s European Perspective forum, held at the Aeroklub last night, Djelic said that the adoption of a
joint resolution of Serbia and the EU regarding the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, at the UN General Assembly in New York, affirms Serbia’s central strategic goal to become a full EU member.
Djelic stated he expects the EU foreign ministers to contemplate Serbia’s candidacy by 25 October, adding that on 16 September, at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule in Brussels, he will deliver the message that the European Commission should prepare the relevant questionnaire for Serbia as quickly as possible, so that Serbia may prepare answers soon and be granted candidate status next year.
He underlined that Serbia must take advantage of the EU integration process to become a competitive economy and join the EU as an efficient country.
