Joint participation of Serbia, Republika Srpska in field of science, research

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic and Minister of Science and Technology of Republika Srpska Bakir Ajanovic signed a Memorandum on scientific-research cooperation between the two ministries in Banjaluka today.

Djelic said for this occasion that it is very important to affirm science and technology as part of special and parallel ties between Republika Srpska and Serbia since the future of these two republics depends on their ability to keep their talented individuals and thus strengthen their economic, social and therefore political capacity.

Republika Srpska can count on Serbia for strong support in the field of economy of knowledge because Serbia has managed to collect €400 million for extra-budgetary investment in science apart from the original €400 million that has been set aside for science from the state budget, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined.

Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, who attended the signing of the Memorandum, confirmed that this document allows for the continuation of the policy agreed by the Council for implementation of the Agreement on special and parallel ties between Serbia and Republika Srpska, which stipulates that all proper ministries should sign memorandums on cooperation.

Dodik highlighted that he talked with Djelic about European integration as well and that he briefed him about the development of relations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Ajanovic explained that cooperation between the proper ministries will develop through work in joint scientific-research projects, exchange of researchers, experts and scientific-technological information, joint use of instruments and equipment, scientific conferences and seminars, formation of joint research centres and coordinated activities in the field of national and international scientific programmes.
