Serbia ready for compromise that would not deviate from established state principles

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that Serbia is ready for compromise when it comes to the resolution on Kosovo-Metohija, but also that this document must not verify the independence of the southern Serbian province.

Dacic stated after talks with Croatian Minister of the Interior Tomislav Karamarko via video-link that verification of the resolution of Kosovo's independence would not be compromise, but discordance with established state principles.

The First Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the Serbia is interested in dialogue with all the major world powers, but it needs to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking about the possibility of the UN General Assembly rejecting the resolution, he emphasised that this could result in Serbian citizens losing faith in the fairness of the international community for acting according to double standards.

Speaking about the situation in Novi Pazar, the Minister pointed out that larger-scale incidents were avoided due to the high level of responsibility shown by the police.

In the incident that occurred on Saturday, 4 September, four police officers and several protesters were injured, but criminal charges have already been filed against certain participants, he added.

Dacic underlined that the police in Novi Pazar will respond only if there is a violation of public order and safety, given that their task is not to solve religious and political problems.

The First Deputy Prime Minister has sent a call to all relevant bodies in Novi Pazar to resolve all unresolved questions and problems peacefully and through discussion, and added that the interest of the Serbs and Bosniaks who live in Sandzak is to preserve peace and stability.
