Success of mathematicians proves Serbia can take leading place in science

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic opened a newly equipped physics laboratory/classroom at the Mathematics High School in Belgrade today. The classroom is fully equipped for carrying out experiments in electronics and mechanical and nuclear physics.

The academic triumphs of the students of the Mathematics High School in several competitions have shown that Serbia can take a leading place when it comes to science, Djelic stressed.

The classroom was equipped with funds of RSD 1 million, provided by the Ministry of Science and Technological Development, he pointed out, recalling that the students of the High School won a number of medals at many competitions.

With success in mathematics and physics competitions in Kazakhstan and Croatia in July this year, Serbia took 10th place in the world, which is much better than the ranking of many far richer countries, underlined Djelic.

He said that he talked with Director of the Mathematics High School Srdjan Ognjanovic about making a mathematics campus in order to make it possible for a larger number of children to attend the High School.

Ognjanovic emphasised that the physics classroom has modern equipment which will improve the quality of teaching and help students achieve even better results.
