Unilateral, forced solutions are temporary

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated today that a just solution is necessary in order to resolve the Kosovo-Metohija issue permanently and that a just solution will also guarantee that there will be no new conflicts similar to those from the past.

Speaking on Radio Television of Serbia, Dacic emphasised that a unilateral and forced solution can only be temporary, adding that it is of essential importance for Serbia that the UN General Assembly does not pass a resolution on 9 September which would seal the Kosovo-Metohija case.

It is also possible that not a single resolution gets adopted. The worst case scenario for Serbia would be that a resolution supporting the independence of Kosovo gets passed, he explained.

He said that he talked yesterday with UNMIK Chief Lambert Zannier about specific problems in Kosovo-Metohija and also about what can be expected to take place at the UN General Assembly session.

The UN supports dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on all unresolved issues, highlighted Dacic, adding that he conveyed to Zannier that Serbia is committed to peace and stability, as unrest in northern Kosovo-Metohija could destabilize the entire security situation in the region.

The Minister announced that he will talk about the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia’s resolution before the UN General Assembly with German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today. Serbia’s European integration process and relations between Serbia and Germany will also be discussed at the meeting which will take place during the German Vice Chancellor’s first official visit to Belgrade, explained Dacic, adding that Germany is Serbia’s important strategic partner, however the two countries have several unresolved issues.

Speaking about yesterday’s extradition of member of Zemun Clan Sretko Kalinic from Croatia, Dacic remarked that he hopes that light will be shed soon on several serious murder cases from the last ten years. He added that it is possible that more details related to the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic are revealed as well.
