Ilic told a press conference at the government building that during his recent visits to Israel and Austria he received assurances that their companies and businesspeople are very interested in investing in Serbia, especially in the transport infrastructure.
According to him, Israeli companies already involved in deals in Serbia worth more than €100 million are ready to immediately invest between €700 million and €800 million in several transport projects in Serbia.
Ilic said that the Israeli government has decided to insure investments by their companies operating in Serbia and that the Austrian government has also announced a similar move. He added that preliminary agreements totaling €500 million were signed during his visits to Israel and Austria.
He said that during his visit to Austria, when a bilateral agreement was signed on November 15 between the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation, and Technology and the Serbian Ministry of Capital Investment, he was told that Austrian companies are interested in speeding up traffic on key international corridors running through Serbia.
Ilic said that Austrian businesspeople, with support from their government, want to finance the works on the Belgrade-Bar highway and parts of Corridor 10 as well as to invest in waterway transport and the building of ports on the Danube.
He said that Austrian companies are also interested in building a beltway around Belgrade and that they have offered a €100 million loan, with repayment over 30 years and a 4 percent annual interest, for that purpose. Ilic added that he will present this offer at the next session of the government and that implementation could begin as soon as next month.
The minister said that Austrian businesspeople are also interested in investing in the Serbian railway industry, while some French companies have shown interest in obtaining concessions to build the Belgrade-South Adriatic highway.
According to him, representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have expressed interest in investing around €60 million in Serbia’s railway infrastructure next year as well as a further €150 million in a beltway around Belgrade and a bridge on the Danube to connect the Belgrade-Nis highway with the city of Pancevo.
