Serbia must remain consistent when protecting state interests in peaceful, diplomatic manner

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that the opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) must not be viewed as Serbia’s defeat in the international arena, emphasising that Serbia must remain consistent in its efforts to protect its national and state interests in a peaceful and diplomatic manner.
Dacic told Tanjug news agency that the ICJ’s opinion in this case does not mean that the secessionist act of Kosovo Albanians is justified, adding that it is an unbinding advisory opinion, which is of a political rather than a legal nature.
Serbia respects and monitors the ICJ’s work because it is an organ of the UN, but we cannot help but feel that this entire matter was not simply about international law, that the court was under the influence of politics, rather than legal arguments, Dacic observed.
I am certain that the Serbian government and parliament will have enough political wisdom to pass such declarations and resolutions to make it clear to all that Serbia is not giving up its claim to Kosovo-Metohija, Dacic concluded.
