Djelic, Degert on visit to south of Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert will sign an agreement on the allocation of non-returnable EU funds for the implementation of a programme to stimulate infrastructure projects in 25 municipalities in southern and south-eastern Serbia over the next three years.
In a statement to Radio Television Serbia, Djelic said that the funds will be invested in concrete projects to develop the functioning of these municipalities, including improving the situation in the areas of heating and drinking water.
He noted that the value of the project “European Partnership with Municipalities – PROGRESS” is €17.5 million.
The EU will set aside €13.5 million, the Swiss government €2.5 million, while the Serbian government will allocate €1.5 million, Djelic highlighted noting that the programme will be implemented by the UN Office for Project Services UNOPS.
The joint programme of the EU and the Swiss and Serbian governments will help these municipalities to improve their infrastructure, the quality of services they provide to citizens and the local economy, as well as to modernise their work in line with the principles of good administration and promote their development potential.
After visiting Vranje, Djelic and Degert will go to Bujanovac to meet with members of the Coordinating Body for the South of Serbia, after which they will take part in a panel “After Conflict – Real Life”.
Djelic stated that Serbia expects a favourable opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on the legality of Kosovo's independence, and added that ahead of us in the coming days is a diplomatic battle in which political representatives of Kosovo Albanians will try to prove that the opinion of the court is actually in their favour.
He confirmed that on 22 July, when the ICJ publishes its opinion on the Kosovo case, the Serbian delegation will be at the summit of African countries in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that representatives of African countries will be presented with the opinion of the ICJ in The Hague and added that countries that did not recognise Kosovo should work together with Serbia so that the UN General Assembly makes a good resolution, after which countries that recognised Kosovo should reconsider their position.
