Novi Sad University to get new building

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic, Autonomous Province of Vojvodina First Minister Bojan Pajtic and Head of the Novi Sad University Miroslav Veskovic signed a Protocol today on realisation and financing of the “Central building of Novi Sad University” project.
Djelic explained that this project will be implemented as of July 2010 and last until 31 December 2011 and that it is worth €5.5 million. It is part of a €400 million investment cycle of the Ministry into scientific and technological infrastructure.
He said that Serbia will invest €4 million that has been secured through the recently signed agreement with the European Investment Bank, while the remaining €1.5 million will be provided by Vojvodina through its Capital Investments Fund.
The future central building of the University of Novi Sad is the first in what will be a series of investment projects in the area of science and technology infrastructure. These projects will be carried out jointly by the national and provincial governments in order to advance the sciences and to build a better future for Serbia, declared the Deputy Prime Minister.
Pajtic emphasised that certain provincial development institutions will also be housed in the new administrative building of Novi Sad University, announcing that in 2011 Novi Sad will also acquire a technology park built at a cost of €20 million.
During his visit to Novi Sad, Djelic also took a tour of various technology departments and attended the 20th European Conference on the Atomic and Molecular Physics of Ionized Gases ESCAMPIG XX, being held at the Novi Sad Fair.
