European Parliament, CoE play important role in Serbia’s EU integration process

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic met with European Parliament members and Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland in Strasbourg today to discuss cooperation and Serbia’s EU integration process.
In a statement to Beta news agency, Djelic emphasised that in the near future the European Parliament will play an even more important role in Serbia’s EU integration process, therefore it is important to hold frequent and constructive meetings with European Parliament representatives.
The European Parliament will make important decisions regarding funds, the Danube Strategy, the strategy for improving the position of the Roma, the transport community and other significant matters related to the integration process, explained Djelic.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that he and Jagland discussed further cooperation between Serbia and the Council of Europe, pointing out that the Council will remain an important and influential institution in the years ahead when it comes to Serbia’s EU path.
Djelic recalled that the Council of Europe monitors the work of the European Development Bank, whose task is to help resolve issues of refugees and other vulnerable groups, as well as react to emergency situations, including floods.
At the meeting they also discussed programmes proposed by Serbia and possibilities that the Council of Europe increases its engagement in Serbia in the following years by €200–300 million, he concluded.
