Emergency medical services receive technical support

Assistant Minister of Health Elizabet Paunovic said today that as part of the project “Technical support to reform of the emergency medical services”, the EU has provided 252 ambulance vehicles which are fully equipped for providing medical assistance according to the highest standards.

As part of this project, defibrillation devices were put in public places and the response to a massive disaster response has been improved.
This project has established the standards for continued medical education of health workers providing emergency aid, she outlined and added that main principles in EU countries are availability and provision of top-quality services.
The EU will provide support for scanning for the three most common cancers – breast, cervical and colorectal.
Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert highlighted that during the project “Technical support to reform of the emergency medical services” which lasted 18 months, the most modern equipment was purchased, medical workers received training and €10 million was invested in the purchase of equipment.
He explained that one of the steps in EU association is the promotion of the health care system and also recalled that the EU, together with the Serbian government, has invested over €140 million in promoting health care in Serbia over the last ten years.
Project manager and representative of the EU in Serbia Alfred Kaf stated that 64 trainers underwent training for work with health workers whereas nearly 2,000 drivers underwent one-day training sessions.
