Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated today that the drafting of a Danube strategy is an excellent opportunity to bring order into this sector in Serbia, underlining that according to the law that is being composed, harbours on the Danube will become public domain.
In an interview for today’s edition of the Novi Sad daily Dnevnik, Djelic said that the Danube strategy implies the adoption of a new law which will help to improve harbour management, because the banks of the Danube River will be made public domain, in line with EU standards.
The banks of the river will be leased out through concessions and harbour operators will be private entities, he specified.
Recalling that legal changes in this sense have already been made, he declared that turning this land into public domain will not harm anyone's private interests because Serbia needs domestic capital to revive the Danube. The domestic legal system must respect private property, he underlined.
At the latest conference on the Danube strategy, held in Constanta, Romania,
Serbia's initiative to hold the session regarding the funding of this project on 27 September in Belgrade was accepted.
