Belgrade to host gathering on Danube Strategy in September

Belgrade/Constanta, 10 June 2010

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and national coordinator for cooperation with the EU in the Danube region Bozidar Djelic stated that at today’s conference in Constanta, Serbia’s initiative to host the September meeting on financing the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in Belgrade was accepted.

Djelic told the Beta news agency that the fact that the proposal to hold the meeting on 27 September in Belgrade was accepted is an important recognition of and compliment to the effort Serbia is investing in the drafting of the Danube Strategy.

He added that representatives from all countries in the Danube Region are attending the conference.

At the margins of the conference in Constanta, Romania, Djelic also met with Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Bakonski. They agreed to draft an additional action plan next year to help improve economic and other relations between Serbia and Romania.

The projects will imply a possibility of joint development of the harbour in Constanta where Serbian businesspeople already have some facilities, the Deputy Prime Minister explained.

The three-day conference in Constanta, dedicated to the mechanisms of managing and financing the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, was organised by the European Commission and Romanian ministries of foreign affairs and regional development and tourism.

The Serbian delegation, headed by Djelic, also comprised deputy national coordinator for cooperation with the EU in the Danube region Danilo Vucetic, Director of the Directorate for Inland Waterways Plovput Zaneta Ostojic-Barjaktarevic and member of Belgrade City Council Zeljko Ozegovic.

Also attending the conference are representatives from Austria, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania.
