CERN delegation in Belgrade

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic held a meeting with a delegation of the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) visiting Belgrade in the wake of Serbia’s official application for membership of this prestigious global scientific institution.
Djelic discussed the opportunities that membership in CERN can provide to researchers in Serbia and the local economy particularly in the field of information technology. In addition to the very active participation of Serbian physicists in CERN projects they agreed to expand cooperation in other scientific fields such as biomedicine, nanotechnology and information technology, in line with the government’s Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development.
Membership in CERN enables participation in various training programmes for young scientists, training for engineers, seminars for teachers, as well as training doctors in clinical practices involving the application of nuclear technology in medicine.
The CERN delegation, headed by Director for Research Sergio Bertolucci, are on a three-day visit to Serbia, during which they will visit the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences, as well as the Institute of Physics and Physical Engineering in Belgrade.
