Report of ICTY Chief Prosecutor basis for beginning of ratification of SAA

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic confirmed today that he expects that the latest report of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, on Serbia’s cooperation with this tribunal to be a basis for the beginning of the ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU.

Djelic said in a statement to Tanjug news agency that Brammertz is expected to attend a meeting of EU Council of Ministers in Luxembourg on 14 June.
Djelic and the Serbian delegation will also attend this meeting with the hope that the ministers will decide that the process of ratification can begin.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in some countries, like Belgium and the Netherlands, the political situation is a bit specific now due to upcoming elections, but voiced the hope that this will not be an obstacle to the ratification process.
Djelic concluded that if the report is positive enough, the process of ratification might start in mid-June.
