Regional police forces to combat organised crime by joint, coordinated activities

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated that regional cooperation is a way of sending a message to all who do not adhere to the law that police forces from countries in the region are working in coordination to make the Western Balkans the safest part of Europe.
In a statement for today’s edition of the Vecernje Novosti daily, Dacic said that the only remnant of the brotherhood and unity among republics of the former Yugoslavia is brotherhood and unity among criminals.
Organised crime and terrorism know no borders or national differences, which is why we have taken decisive steps to oppose it in a joint and coordinated operation of police forces from all countries in the region, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised.
The Serbian police are actively engaged in numerous processes of international cooperation and have taken a leading position among regional police initiatives regarding the fight against organised crime, he announced.
Dacic stressed that the Serbian police have become an equal partner to other police forces in the region and Europe and have set a positive example of regional and international police cooperation. To illustrate this, he recalled Serbia’s initiative to form a regional centre for combating organised crime, which was well received.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the Serbian police are taking part in joint and coordinated regional operations, which have resulted in a clampdown on criminal groups and arrest of their members in several countries.
An intensive exchange of information in the fight against drug crime alone has resulted in the confiscation of over 780 kilos of cocaine, 30 kilos of heroine, 516 kilos of cannabis in other countries, while 308 persons have been arrested, Dacic specified.
He explained that experience has shown that criminal groups most often link with other such groups in the region, primarily in former Yugoslav republics.
Their main motive is material gain, regardless of their nationality, religion or ethnicity, he concluded.
