Djelic, Moratinos discuss next steps of Serbia on path to EU

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic met with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos in Madrid today to discuss the next steps of Serbia on its path to the European Union.

The Deputy Prime Minister's Office stated that the meeting primarily focused on the ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) and forwarding Serbia’s membership request to the European Commission for consideration.
Djelic and Moratinos also discussed the strategic cooperation of the EU and the Western Balkans in the coming decade and concrete forms of cooperation by 2020. The two ministers also welcomed today’s first direct flight between Belgrade and Madrid in the last 20 years.
They also looked at bilateral economic cooperation at all levels, as well as the realisation of Spain’s loan of €22 million intended for the purchase of eight railroad carriages with diesel engines and the modernisation of the Serbian railway system.
Djelic recalled that Serbia announced a tender for the sale of 40% of the capital of Telekom Srbija and invited Spanish companies to contemplate their participation in it, the statement concludes.
