Herbert Anderl and Milorad Veljovic
At a joint press conference Veljovic stated that at their meeting, they discussed the fight against organised crime, the drug trade, corruption and terrorism.
He said that he and Anderl agreed that police cooperation should be established at all levels down to the lowest ranked services in order to avoid any obstacles.
The Police Chief affirmed that the Austrian Minister of the Interior will also visit Serbia, most likely on 24 and 25 June, to sign a readmission agreement with Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic.
Veljovic stressed that this agreement is one of the key issues for the Serbian police, as well as for Serbia’s path to the EU.
Anderl said that the cooperation between the Austrian and Serbian police is exemplary, noting that Austria wants to improve it even further to protect the interests of citizens from both states.
The goal of my visit to Serbia is to improve police cooperation, Anderl said underlining the importance of their cooperation in combating organised crime, since crime transcends borders.
The close and friendly cooperation between the Austrian and Serbian police has gained a new dimension today and took a step further, he said.
On behalf of the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Anderl presented plaques to a group of Belgrade policemen, as a sign of gratitude for successful cooperation.
This refers to a case in which members of the Criminal Police Directorate, Belgrade police and the Interpol office in Belgrade helped their Austrian colleagues in the arrest of a person accused of attempted murder, extortion and many other serious crimes.
