Israel to assist Serbia in research, development

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic and Israeli Minister of Science and Technology Daniel Hershkowitz reached agreement on cooperation between Serbia and Israel in science.

At a press conference following the meeting with Hershkowitz, Djelic said that the first level implies increasing bilateral cooperation, noting that the major role will be that of the Physics Institute and the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, which already have partners in Israel.
The second level is sending Israeli consultants for the construction of scientific infrastructure to Serbia, while the third level implies Israel’s sharing of experience in promoting science to a broader public.
He noted that Israel sets aside almost 5% of GDP for investment in science and research, which is 20 times more than in Serbia.
Hershkowitz said that Serbia has the potential to become one of the leading European countries in science and research, affirming Israel’s readiness to help it in this respect.
There are numerous similarities between our countries, including a lack of natural resources, but an abundance of human ones, Hershkowitz said adding that if a sound plan is devised, Serbia can fulfil this goal.
